Below are your suggested activities for the week indicated.
Do not try and get all your work done at once! Do a little bit of work from each subject every day! Remember, our target is around 2 hours of learning per day.
I will only be sharing SPECIFIC reminders from Ms. Car and Madame Casagrande with you here. They will still be sharing their work with you from their already established work folders. You should always check the folders that Ms. Car and Madame Casagrande have been using to share with you on a daily basis.
Wellington Catholic School Board Religion Tasks for the Week of June 22-25.
Task 1
A review of difficult times and finding their meaning.
Anne Frank was a young girl who lived during World War II. As a Jew in occupied Amsterdam, she kept a diary during a time when she lived in complete isolation, in fear of violence from the Nazis. Despite this, she maintained hope for a better world. While our current context is not war, isolation and fear of the unknown are themes that are not new to humanity. Today, we remember this by reading an excerpt from the Diary of Anne Frank as prayer:

In spite of everything I still believe that people are really good at heart. I simply can’t build up my hopes on a foundation consisting of confusion, misery, and death. I see the world gradually being turned into a wilderness, I hear the ever approaching thunder, which will destroy us too, I can feel the sufferings of millions and yet, if I look up into the heavens, I think that it will all come right, that this cruelty too will end, and that peace and tranquility will return again. In the meantime, I must uphold my ideals, for perhaps the time will come when I shall be able to carry them out.

Using a piece of paper, put a line down the middle. One one side write ‘Similar to me’ and on the other ‘Different from me.’ Write down 5-10 points on each side, comparing the life of Anne Frank to your own.
Task 2
While not the same, there are some similarities between your life and that of Anne Frank. How can you show hope this summer despite the difficult end to the school year? Consider the following activity:
1) Who do you need to thank for this school year? Who has upheld your dignity, or that of someone else in your school? The school year may not have ended the way you would have liked, but there are people who have called you, taught you and helped you. To whom can you reach out to say thank you? Do this before the end of June!
Do not forget to check online for any end of the year tasks or messages from Ms. Car, Madame Casagrande, or Mrs. Chapman!

Task 1
Recently at mass, we hear the story of Pentecost, a celebration where the followers of Jesus are asked to go speak to others about his mission of kindness and generosity. (John 20:19-23 & Acts 2:1-11) In a way, they were told to spread the message of Jesus to the four corners of the world.
Pentecost was a Jewish festival, and partly why the disciples had gathered. On Pentecost, we review what it means to be alive in the Holy Spirit. Watch the video below called ‘Holy Spirit’ by the Bible Project which traces what is said about the Holy Spirit in the Bible.

As grades 8s, you are leaders in your school AND moving on to become leaders in a new school. How can you spread the good news of Jesus in your ‘four corners’? Reach out to someone to tell them how they impacted you this year. Share also with them how you will take the positive lesson they taught you into the ‘Four Corners’ of the world, as the disciples did after Pentecost.

Prayers in the Catholic tradition begin with the sign of our faith, saying ‘In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.’ Often, we do this without thinking. What actions are you making that show love of God and love of neighbour at this time of social distancing due to COVID?
Make a list of up to 10 of these and tape/use a magnet and put them on your fridge or somewhere else where your family members will see them. This is a reminder of the goodness in the world in difficult times.

Wellington Catholic School Board Suggested Religion Activities for the Week of May 19-22.
1) In the readings for this week at mass (John 14: 15-21), we hear a new word. This word is ‘advocate.’
This word means a person who has spoken for you and who is looking out for you and your best interests.
Watch this video of Bishop Barron commenting on the life of Mother Theresa. While you are watching, write down a few 5 or 6 points that show how she can be considered as an “advocate”.

2) Who is an advocate in your life? This is a form of love. As Bishop Barron says, this love is one that means ‘to will the good of the other.’ Who wills the good in your life? Who wants what is best for you? What could you do to thank them for this?
Some ideas include:
· Calling/Skyping/Facetiming
· Asking for help to drop off baked goods at their doorstep
· Make a card
· Other creative ideas that respect physical distancing.
Do any of these tasks seem like something you could do for any “advocates” you have helping you at home right now?
3) Advocacy is a special form of leadership where a person stands up for another. This takes commitment to looking out for what is best for other people. Think about who YOU can advocate for. Who is one person in your life you could strive to become a better advocate for? How could you accomplish this?

I know it can be a bit hard to imagine that we are going to do “remote” phys-ed classes! However, the YMCA has shared with us a terrific resource for at home use!
The following link is for the YMCA’s “virtual” gym. If you go to this page you will see a link designed for 10-15 year olds. Click on that link to access 8 videos that have different 10-20 minute home workouts that you can do to help stay active!
There is even a “sports skills” section. So far there is only one soccer drill in that link.
However, the YMCA plans on adding to this resource as the closure continues. So try to build these fitness sessions into your weekly routines!
RELIGION
Task 1
In difficult times, it can be easy to blame others for things that are beyond our control. Today, we challenge ourselves to understand similarities between people sometimes seen as ‘different.’ We can do this as Catholics too, by working to understand different religions.

Ramadan is month of prayer and reflection being celebrated from April 24th till the evening of May 23rd. What do you know about this holy month? The Muslim Society of Guelph’s website is: https://www.msofg.org/

Also, about halfway down that opening page of the website you can also read how the Covid Quarantine is impacting Ramadan.
